We are starting a health unit about Human Development
and Sexual Health on June 16th
Parents/guardians play the
most significant role in the formation of children’s values and behaviours
related to human growth and development. It is important for schools and
parents to work together to ensure that home and school provide a mutually
supportive framework for learning.
We will share and communicate our class learning with you so that you are able to consider the topics in view of your own family and your own beliefs. This unit will cover the following areas:

- describe how they can build confidence and lay
a foundation for healthy relationships by acquiring a clearer
understanding of the physical, social, and emotional changes that occur
during adolescence
- make
informed decisions that demonstrate respect
for themselves and other and help to build healthier relationships, using
a variety of living skills
- assess the effects of stereotypes, including homophobia and assumptions regarding gender roles and expectations, sexual orientation, gender expression, race, ethnicity or culture, mental health, and abilities, on an individual’s self-concept, social inclusion, and relationships with others, and propose appropriate ways of responding to and changing assumptions and stereotypes
